VERSE 1
They tell me Jesus changes everything
But even now I still don’t see
When I look into the mirror
I don’t find much change in me
Now I can quote the bible all day long
But there are times I just don’t know
Is just an act I’m putting on, or does Jesus really show?

CHORUS
Mirror, mirror, on my wall, you cannot tell a lie
But you see only part of me, and not the man inside
Mirror, mirror, if it were my heart that you could see
Would Jesus be reflected in me?

VERSE 2
I go to church as often as I can
I hang around with my Christian friends
I say all the words that make me sound
So spiritual to them
But if it’s only the same old man in me
Tryin’ to live by different rules
Well, then, I’ve really only just become
Another blind, religious fool

CHORUS
Mirror, mirror, on my wall, you cannot tell a lie
But you see only part of me, and not the man inside
Mirror, mirror, if it were my heart that you could see
Would Jesus be reflected in me?

VERSE 3
Now I can quote the bible all day long
But there are times I just don’t know
Is just an act I’m putting on, or does Jesus really show?
Does He really show?

CHORUS
Jesus, Jesus, in my heart, you cannot tell a lie
And you see every part of me, not just the man outside
Jesus, if a mirror could reflect the man you see
Would your life be reflected in me?
Would Jesus be reflected in me?

Behind the Music

This may be one of the first Christian tunes I wrote (or at least finished). This version is a contemporary ballad, sort of like what you might have heard on Christian radio in the 1980’s. Personally, I like the 2004 remake much better, but I keep this around for posterity’s sake!
