VERSE 1
Dee Dee was a dancer back in East St. Lou
She gave the boys a little love and compassion
From seven ‘till two
She saw me through many painful nights
When the loneliness was too hard to bear
But when I’d stumble home in the morning
The pain was still there

CHORUS
‘Till there was you
I wasted away every moment of my life
‘Till there was you
I tried to fill my time with just anything that I could find
And love was a stranger I never knew
‘Till there was you

VERSE 2
I felt like an old, old man
But I was barely nineteen
And all of my school friends were out there
Chasin’ after their dreams
But I was chasin’ memories
Of a love that had somehow gone wrong
And life was just a train rolling by me
I couldn’t seem to get on

CHORUS
‘Till there was you
I wasted away every moment of my life
‘Till there was you
I tried to fill my time with just anything that I could find
And love was a stranger I never knew
‘Till there was you

BRIDGE
Now I don’t struggle any longer
With the pain of being alone
You give me joy that’s so much stronger
Than any pain I’ve ever known

CHORUS
‘Till there was you
I wasted away every moment of my life
‘Till there was you
I tried to fill my time with just anything that I could find
And love was a stranger I never knew
‘Till there was you

Behind the Music

This one is actually a Christian crossover song. The inspiration came from reflecting back on my life before I met Carol, and how I was changed as a result of our relationship. As I began writing, I was struck by the parallel between the husband-wife relationship and the believer-Christ relationship and realized that what I was trying to convey applies to both.
